General Motors Offers Compensation after Recall
General Motors has taken action after recalling more than 1.6 million cars worldwide in February for an ignition switch defect.
The company is offering free loaners until replacement parts arrive at local dealerships.
Customers may also use a 500 dollar credit for a new GM vehicle.
The faulty switch can cause engines to shut down unexpectedly and disable safety systems, including airbags.
So far, 31 crashes and 12 deaths have been linked to the defect.
The company is currently under multiple investigations over its recall handling and has admitted to knowing about the problem a decade ago.
