USC Receives Record-breaking Number of Applications

The university received nearly 52,000 applications.

The University of Southern California sent out admissions decisions on Thursday to 51,700 applicants.

The university received a record-breaking number of applications in its 134-year history and had a 17.8-percent acceptance rate.

Admissions counselors said they used a hollistic approach, looking at each students academic strengths, as well as their extracurriculars and leadership positions.

The upcoming freshmen reflect the university's ethnically and academically diverse student body, attracting students from all 50 states and multiple international countries, according to Timothy Brunold, dean of admission.

Sixty-five percent of admitted students are African American, Latino, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander and multi-ethnic and had an average GPA of 3.82.

The admissions committee has created 48 events on and off campus for upcoming students and their families and say they are excited for the new batch of Trojans.

Accepted students can expect to hear about financial aid in the coming weeks.
