L.A. First Major City to Ban Use of Bullhooks on Elephants
The Los Angeles City Council voted Wednesday to ban the use of bullhooks in L.A.
All members present voted against the use of bullhooks, which are often used to train and care for elephants in traveling shows.
The new ordinance also bans the use of baseball bats, axe handles, pitchforks and other tools designed to inflict pain on elephants.
With this move, L.A. becomes the first major city in the nation to implement such a ban in an effort to promote humane treatment of animals.
