South Korean Ferry Memorial Tree Planting

The tree planting ceremony comes on the heels of South Korea's president calling her government's reaction to disaster "insufficient."

Dozens of people participated in a tree planting ceremony Tuesday in Griffith Park to pay tribute to those affected by the South Korean ferry disaster two weeks ago.

L.A. is home to the largest Korean population outside of South Korea, according to Councilman Tom Labonge, who participated in the event.

For many in attendance, the ceremony helped to connect with friends and family in Korea.

"This tree planting is our way of letting them know we are thinking of them from afar," said Moon Young Ko.

The event comes after South Korean President Park Geun-hye called her government's action "insufficient" following the ferry accident that killed hundreds of people earlier this month.
