USC Defense Shines In Annual Spring Game
Over 17,000 fans flooded the L.A. Coliseum to get a glimpse of the talent on the USC football team. However, it wasn't an offensive show as the defense came out with a 19-15 victory.
Even though USC quarterback Cody Kessler was named the starter for the spring Max Browne received the most reps on the day. New enrollee Jalen Greene also displayed his moves on the field.
"For a kid that should be getting ready to go to senior prom I thought he showed a real good sense of confidence," said USC head coach Steve Sarkisian about Greene. "I thought he was impressive."
Still despite rotating three quarterbacks the defense was able to make stops. With many players still battling injuries USC's younger guys had the opportunity to showcase their talent on the field.
"They've been maturing really fast," said USC linebacker Hayes Pullard. "They're not young boys anymore...to see them past the level I was when I was a freshman."
Spring ball is all about developing. USC's No. 1 wide receiver Nelson Agholor says he became better every practice.
"It's all about getting the fundamentals back under you," said Agholor. "It's all about practicing a certain way. If you practice with the right effort, right concentration, you'll get good results."
The Trojans will open up the 2014 football season at home versus Fresno State on Aug. 30.
