Study Encourages Teens to Use IUDs
The most prominent group of children’s doctors released a report today recommending doctors stress the importance of birth control use in order of effectiveness.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, only 0.2-0.8 percent of women experience an unintended pregnancy while using an intrauterine device, or IUD. About nine percent get pregnant on the Pill.
IUDs are inserted in the uterus and can remain there for three to ten years, depending on the type. Many young people aren’t even aware of IUDs as an option, and some don’t know enough about them to make a decision about trying one.
USC students Claire Bond and Jessica Duan, both 19, weigh in on this form of long-acting reversible contraception.
