Boy Band Receives Star on Walk of Fame

The popular '80s and '90s boy band, New Kids On The Block, receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Before there was One Direction, and even before there were the Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC, there was New Kids on the Block. Today, the boy band will be the new kids on Hollywood Boulevard.

The band will receive the 2,530th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today, October 9th.

Arsenio Hall joined band members Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donny Wahlberg and Danny Wood at the 11:30 am ceremony at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard, between Sycamore and La Brea avenues.

The band released its self-titled debut album in 1986, and rose to popularity with the release of their single “Please Don’t Go Girl” and their breakout album “Hanging Tough.”

In 1990, New Kids on the Block won two American Music Awards. They were named the favorite pop/rock band, duo or group and they also won favorite pop/rock album for "Hanging Tough.”

By the time the band separated in 1994, New Kids on the Block had sold 80-million albums in total and had five platinum albums, 10 top 10 singles and five number one singles.

New Kids on the Block released their sixth studio album, “10,” in 2013. The album debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 chart.
