Healthy Food Fair Sprouts Up at USC
The USC Healthy Food Fair, held today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at McCarthy Quad brought hundreds of students and popular restaurants and food trucks from the greater Los Angeles area together to promote heathy food choices with a bold taste.
All restaurants and food trucks provided free samples for the large number of students who stopped by. The fair allowed people to try a variety of organic, vegan and vegetarian, and sustainably sourced options including Ethiopian cuisine, juices, smoothies, acai bowls, and salads.
The Environmental Student Assembly (ESA), who sponsored the event, also gave away free Tupperware for students to take home healthy options. Among the vendors, Azla Vegan, Homegirl Café & Catering, Fresh Street Food Truck, Amazebowls, Leno Juice Bar, Juice Crafters, and Mixt Greens all held stalls on the quad.
Some vendors believed that South L.A. currently does not have many healthy options for people to turn to.
Nes Abegaze, owner of Azla Vegan stated, “We’re here today because we partner with the ESA to continually promote healthy options for the USC community.”
Despite the long lines, students waited in the hot sun for free samples. USC student Monica Landry who sampled a plate from Azla said, “I don’t even know what I am eating right now. I think it’s some kind of leaf...but it is really really good.”
