Local Businesses Deal with Water Main Break Aftermath

Monday night's water main break caused lots of traffic Tuesday and slow business. ATVN's Jessica Harrington has the story.

Streets are opened, but businesses are still trying to get back on their feet after Monday night’s water main break on Highland Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard.

A Subway is located across the street from where the water main break happened and had to close early on Monday. One Subway employee said business was still slow Tuesday due to roadwork.

“Today is not the same as it usually is, but it’s getting better. It’s a little better,” he said.

A spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said eventually nearly 15 thousand feet will need to be replaced.

“The main is continuing to function. All customers are receiving water and in the near future we’ll go back and do the large main replacement project,” said the spokeswoman.

Major repairs are expected to begin in 2017.
