Prop. 45 Supporters Rally Against Health Insurance Rates
California Proposition 45 supporters rallied outside the Blue Shield of California offices in El Segundo today with a truck of manure.

Protestors delivered a truck filled with steer manure on Tuesday to demand that the health insurance company stop what the group called misleading television advertisements against the proposition.
According to YesOn45.org, Proposition 45’s informational website, the measure would require insurance companies to publicly disclose their rates, prohibit unfair pricing and require health insurance companies to cover the fee for creating new laws.
Prop 45 opponents argue that passing this proposal would give too much power to politicians, create a more costly bureaucracy, interfere with medical treatment options. They charge it is sponsored by special interest to save on costly lawsuits.
According to a statement on the Californians Against High Health Care Cost’s website, “Proposition 45 would put control [of]…insurance rates into the hands of the state’s elected insurance commissioner." It goes on to say, “This is too much power to vest in the person of a single elected official."
Voting on the proposition will take place on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.
