Students Plead to Revamp the Lyon Center
Wellness Affairs of USC's Undergraduate Student Government is sponsoring a campaign called "Revamp Lyon" that aims to not only reconstruct the Lyon Recreation Center, but to redefine fitness and recreation as a whole at USC.
The campaign's Facebook page received close to 500 likes overnight.
"We really want to get students to rethink about what they want from our recreational facilities," said USG Chief of Staff Hassan Ebrahim Wednesday.
The Facebook page provides a survey that allows students to express their interest in revamping the Lyon Recreation Center.
Students are concerned with the lack of space and outdated equipment.
Students created an application last year called GymFlow that helps avoid crowding at the recreation center. The application uses real-time and historical traffic data to let its users know how crowded the fitness facility is at a specific time.
USC Student Matt Nordstrom posted on the new Facebook page on Wednesday, "USC should have the best fitness center out of any school in the nation... Fitness/Sports and USC go hand in hand!!!!!! Come on Lyon Center!!!!!!!!! #NoBrainer."
USG created a petition last year that asked the University to designate more resources toward the Lyon Center and recreational sports, which recieved over 1,400 signatures in two days.
The "Revamp Lyon" campaign is USG's latest campaign to kickstart facility updates and bring the comunity together, according to Ebrahim.
The Lyon Recreational Center was last updated in 2012.
