Midterms Results Show a Blue California, Red Nation

CALIFORNIA

Gov. Jerry Brown takes the gubernatorial seat for a second term, leaving Neel Kashkari leaving a little blue. 

Kuehl takes seat on L.A. County Board of Supervisors.

Gavin Newsom (D) listed as lead Lt. Governor race over Ron Nehring (R)

Alex Padila (D) takes Secretary of State position over Pete Peterson (R).

Incumbent Kamala Harris (D) is Attorney General for the state of California once more. Ronald Gold's feeling more cold than gold with only 44.7 percent of the vote. 

Proposition 1: Funding Water Quality, Supply, Treatment, Storage

Yes votes: 67.1 percent

No votes: 32.9 percent 

Projected result: YES


Proposition 2: State Budget Stabilization Account

Yes votes: 69.4 percent

No votes: 30.6 percent

Projected result: YES

Proposition 45: Healthcare Insurance Rate Changes

Yes votes: 39.8 percent

No votes: 60.2 percent 

Projected result: NO

Proposition 46: Doctor Drug Testing, Medical Negligence

Yes votes: 32.4 percent

No votes: 67.6 percent 

Projected result: NO


Proposition 47: Criminal Sentences, Misdemeanor Penalties

Yes votes: 58.1 percent

No votes: 41.9 percent 

Projected result: YES


Proposition 48: Indian Gaming Compacts Referendum

Yes votes: 39.9 percent 

No votes: 60.1 percent

Projected result: NO

FEDERAL

Democrats are feeling red. Republicans have taken over the House. 

AROUND THE NATION

In Colorado, Bob Beauprez (R) was able to take the seat from Democrat John Hickenlopper, 48.5 to 47.21 percent.  

Florida has the same governor in Rick Scott (R) who beat out Charlie Crist with 48.26 percent of the vote. 

Illinois' Bruce Rauner (R) is the new governor of the state beating out incumbent Pat Quinn50.51 percent to 46.13 percent.

With 49.45 percent of the vote, Tom Foley (R), the former U.S. Ambassador beat Democrat incumbent Dan Malloy. It was a close race. Malloy got 49.44 percent of the vote. 

Maine is blue. Republican Paul LePage kept his seat against the former U.S. Rep. for Maine's second congressional district, Mike MichaudThis race ended at 47.57 to 44.02 percent.

New Mexico's governor remains. Susana Martinez heads into her second term. She defeated Democrat Gary King with a margin of more than 15 points. 

Andrew Cuomo (D) has been re-elected to the governor's seat in New York over Republican Rob Astorino with 58.2 percent of votes.

Tim Scott (R) of South Carolina becomes first African-American senator to win election in the south since Reconstruction. 

Clay Aiken (D) does not win seat in the House for North Carolina. He loses to incumbent Renee Ellmers (R) with only 41 percent of the vote, compared to Ellmers' 59 percent.
