Street Vendors Rally for Legalization
The Los Angeles Street Vendor Campaign held a rally, followed by a press conference Tuesday morning at L.A. City Hall in support of legalizing food vendors on city sidewalks.
At 1 p.m., the group discussed with the Economic Development Committee a proposed street vending program that would allow street vendors to sell goods and food on sidewalks and public parks.
Supporters of legalizing food vendors chanted, “No more tickets, no more fines,” at City Hall. One woman even held up tickets she has received for selling food on the streets of Los Angeles.
According to city officials, there are approximately 10,000 food vendors and 40,000 non-food vendors who operate on the streets and parks of L.A.
City Council approved the broad framework of the proposition but some details are still in the works.
