The Best PR Move for Brian Williams
USC public relations professor and expert Fred Muir explained that in order for Brian Williams to salvage his image, he must first make a formal apology for falsely recounting a story he reported on while reporting in Iraq in 2003.
"He tried to make an apology a few days ago but it was very poorly done, it was a very muddled message," Muir said. "I do think it will serve him well to try that again."
Williams was suspended on Tuesday for six months without pay, a move which Muir says will help NBC to "get things to cool down."
"They suspended him, which was the right thing, granted they were a bit slow at doing so but nonetheless they finally did it, and then they launched an inquiry that will get to the bottom of this," Muir said. "They might be kind of clearing the path to eventually bring him back."
NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt will replace Williams during the next six month. Williams has yet to publicly comment on his suspension.
