USG Presidential Candidates Campaign On Trousdale
It's election season for USC's student government. Tuesday marked the start of on-campus campaigning.
Junior Rini Sampath is running against classmate Providence Illisevich for Undergraduate Student Government (USG) president. Both students spent the day meeting likely votes along Trousdale.
"Today we're just out here trying to meet as many students as possible. A lot of them, we're just trying to educate about the voting process in general," Sampath explained.
Illisevich also handed out flyers and talked to students on campus during the day.
"It's nice to actually have conversation, so it's definitely been good to see everyone out here and everybody out here supporting," she said.
Sampath says that if she's elected, she and her vice president will focus on improving accessfor students with disabilities and supporting recreational sports. Illisevich says she and her vice president will aim to improve academic experiences, such as web registration and reduce USC's environmental impact.
Communication directors for both campaigns are using social media to get the word out about their team's platforms.
"Social media is what starts. It's what people see first," said Paul Samaha, Sampath's communication director for her campaign. "They see it when they first get to campus."
Sampath's competitor's social media has also been a focus in the campaign process.
"It's like, if you do something and ten people see it, then another ten people and so your reach just kind of extends exponential, so anybody can be helpful," said Ellison Abbott, a volunteer on Illisevich's campaign.
Students can vote on campus or online from Feb. 10-12.
