Women of Troy Punish Powerhouses

No. 7 USC women's tennis takes down No. 3 Cal and No. 10 Stanford.

The No. 7 USC women's tennis team (14-2, 3-0) improved to 7-0 in the friendly confines of Marks Stadium, taking down No. 3 California Saturday and No. 10 Stanford Sunday. The 4-3 nailbitter over the Golden Bears came down to the final singles match claimed by USC freshman Meredith Xepoleas, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. Sunday's victory came with more leeway, as the Women of Troy took down the Cardinal 6-1 behind three singles wins by freshman.

Senior Sabrina Santamaria and junior Giuliana Olmos explained USC sudden dominance over the top-ranked opponents and feel that the team is catching its stride now that it is in the heart of conference play. The Women of Troy will next be in action Friday, as they head up to Eugene, Orgeon to battle the Ducks.
