USC Offense Beats Defense 37-23 in Spring Game

It was an aerial assault for the Trojans as they had over 400 passing yards.

The USC football team took to the Coliseum to finish out spring football practice with the Cardinal (offense) beating the White (defense) 37 to 23. The Trojans ran 82 plays.

Returning starting quarterback Cody Kessler was 8 of 10 for 126 yards, throwing 1 TD to redshirt junior wide receiver Christian Tober. Tober scored another touchdown with the throw from back-up quarterback Max Browne, who finished 24 of 37 for 251 yards and 2 TD's.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian said the receiving game was the focus. Sophomore wide receiver JuJu Smith scored a touchdown and had 152 yards in 9 receptions. Redshirt sophomore Steven Mitchell had 7 catches for 90 yards, while transfer Isaac Whitney had 5 receptions for 45 yards. The Trojans finished with 402 passing yards.

The defense had the most question marks coming into spring practice, as they lost defensive end Leonard Williams to the NFL. Five Trojans had 5 tackles in the Spring Game - cornerback Kevon Seymour, safeties Leon McQuay and Matt Lopes, inside linebacker Cameron Smith, and outside linebacker Su'a Cravens, who had 2 tackles for losses. The defense also caused 2 turnovers. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Joel Foy recovered a fumble, and redshirt freshman cornerback Jalen Jones intercepted a pass off of freshman quarterback Ricky Town.

Sophomore Adoree Jackson played on both sides of the ball today. He had 1 reception for 4 yards.

Redshirt sophomore Matt Boermeester is looking to replace kicker Andre Heidari. Boermeester went 2 for 2, making a 52- and 39-yarder. Redshirt Alex Wood also went 2 for 2 and made a field goal over 50 yards. He also made a 35-yarder.
