Donald Trump Banter Explodes On Twitter Ahead Of Republican Presidential Debate

The tone of the conversation was a mixed bag.

Twitter exploded leading up to the second republican presidential debate.

By 3 p.m. today, there were more than 360,000 tweets on the 11 candidates taking part in the main CNN event.

One candidate was dominating the conversation: Donald Trump.

This was evident by Twitter analysis conducted by social media guru and public relations professor, Matthew Leveque.

“About two thirds of all the tweets have some mention of Donald Trump in them,” he said.

The tone of conversation has been a mixed bag.

The top retweeted tweet, with over 5200 retweets, was by George Lopez, stating simply: “F*** @realDonaldTrump.”

“The third or fourth most popular one is about Lady Gaga’s response when asked about if she is a fan of Donald Trump,” said Leveque. “It’s a video where she just laughed and walked away."

“And then most of the other ones are Donald Trump’s personal tweets getting retweeted a lot.”

The focus was on Trump when USC students were asked to question one of the candidates.

“I would ask Donald Trump why he is seriously running because I don’t think he’s doing it for the right reasons. I think he’s doing it for attention,” said sophomore John David Remington.

“I would ask Donald Trump where he gets his toupees,” added sophomore Nicole Toto. “I mean his policies suck, so might as well focus on his hair.”
