USC Uber Or Campus Cruiser?

Students compare their Campus Cruiser experience to USC Uber.

Campus Cruiser has been servicing University of Southern California students since 1978 to provide a safe and efficient means of transportation for those traveling to and from campus, especially in the late hours. However, due to the long wait times, Jordan Fowler as USG Director of Student Affairs worked to partner Uber with Campus Cruiser earlier this year.

“Last week Campus Cruiser and Uber handled over 18,000 rides,” said Michelle Garcia, Senior Associate Director of USC Transportation.

Although students expressed feeling more comfortable with Campus Cruiser because the drivers are fellow students, safety issues between the two entities are not a major concern. Most students tend to prefer USC Uber due to the drastically shorter wait times.

“I intended to use [Campus Cruiser], but it just never got here on time so I’m kind of wary about using it again,” said Areeba Zahid, a student at USC.

Despite being more efficient, USC Uber will only be available to transport students when Campus Cruiser has a wait time of fifteen minutes or more.

Both transportation services are free of charge and will only transport passengers within the Department of Public Safety patrol area. Those wanting to utilize the USC Uber option can only do so by logging in to the Uber application with their USC email and entering a special promotion code.

Students are encouraged to call Campus Cruiser at 213.740.4911 instead of walking home alone late at night.
