School Forces Student Organizations To Change Their Names

Student groups were given seven days to remove "USC" from the beginning of their names.

In a letter from the Office of Campus Activities last week, nearly 120 student organizations were told to remove the letters USC from the beginning of their name.

Organizations were given seven days to make the change, which one group called "ridiculous."

The Interim Director of the Office of Campus Activities said the change was reflective of a longstanding rule that had not been enforced.

He said forcing organizations to be, for example, Troy Camp at USC rather than USC Troy Camp would reduce confusion among the student body and at the USC Credit Union, which manages their bank accounts.
