Vegas Shooting Leaves 3 Dead, Several Injured
Three people were killed and at least six were injured on the Las Vegas Strip early Thursday morning after a drive-by shooting caused a chain of reaction including fire.
Officials say the driver in a black Range Rover opened fire on a Maserati stopped at a traffic light. Then, the Maserati hit the taxi cab, causing it to burst into flames. The taxi and the Maserati were two of six total vehicles that crashed immediately after.
The taxi driver and the rear passenger were announced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Maserati also died, and his passenger was shot.
Police sectioned off the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. and Flamingo, which is home to casinos including Bally, Ceasar's Palace and the Bellagio. Authorities are checking with nearby businesses to see if there were any early altercations.
Officials believe an altercation earlier at a casino resort led the car-to-car attack.
Despite the spate of violence, Las Vegas Police Officer Jose Hernandez said Las Vegas Blvd is still a safe place for tourists.
"People don't have to worry," Hernandez said. "This is an unusual occurence, as tragic as it might be."
Authorities are searching for the black Range Rover with paper dealer plates and custom rims.
