Growing up in the the central valley, 'SPL' was surrounded by the news industry with his grandmother working as General Manager for the Tehachapi Newspaper.
Appreciating an early love for the world of media and news, he worked on several school newspapers and yearbooks in his early years, and eventually took up a love for photography, video and computers. In high school he started his own weekly television news show on campus.
