LA Cathedral To Hold Night Vigil for New Pope
The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Downtown Los Angeles will hold an all-night prayer vigil Monday in preperation for the selection of the new pope.
The 12-hour vigil will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday and conclude at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.
There will be a recitation of the rosary and other prayers every hour of the vigil and it will end with a votive mass.
The vigil is in preperation for the convocation of the College of Cardinals to select a new pope to replace Pope Benedict XVI.
"This is an historic moment for our church," Cathedral Pastor Msgr. Kevin Kostelnik said. "As Catholics, we pray for the Holy Spirit to guide the College of Cardinals as they select our next pope."
Pope Benedict announced his retirement last month on account of health problems, becoming the first pontiff in 600 years to retire.
