Police Detail Levine's Final Moments
The Cabo San Lucas Police Department spoke with ATVN Monday afternoon to explain the accidental death of 22-year-old Samuel Levine while he was on Spring Break.
According to police officials, Levine had been attempting to get back into his room without a key, after being out of his hotel the night before.
Levine reportedly climbed over the balcony to get back to his room. When he did, he entered a restricted area and stepped onto a plastic divider between balconies, which gave way and caused him to fall.
The accident occurred some time between Monday night and Tuesday morning at the hotel Levine was staying at, Cabo Villas Beach Resort. Hotel officials have yet to comment on the incident.
Levine was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, which will host a candlelight vigil Monday at 10 p.m. to honor their lost brother.
Levine's classmates and friends are left in shock after the tragic death. "He'd smile at you, and...it'd just make your day," said Jenny Nelson, "I just couldn't believe it, it was hard to accept it I guess. I still can't really believe it."
"It's shocking...there's no other way to say it...there aren't really words to describe it. It's difficult to believe that it's true," said Junior Connor Poole, a member of Sigma Chi. Poole said Levine was "a great guy and he will be very sorely missed by all of us."
