Qualities Of A Star

TAGS:

Star MJs are those students who come in with a positive attitude every week, and who are excited to be in the newsroom. It’s always great to work with MJs who are eager to be at ATVN because you know that you can assign them any story to shoot, report, or edit without any complaints. A lot of our MJs are volunteers and not all of them feel very comfortable with the tasks we assign them to, so it’s always great to work with MJs who are excited to learn and try new things out. These are the type of MJs you want to assign your top stories to, because you know that no matter what, they will always try to do their best and will most often do a great job!

As a producer, there is nothing more frustrating than when MJs sulk over to your desk and tell you that they’re tired and don’t want to work, or when you constantly see them on their phone, or anxiously awaiting for their shift to be over. They slow the newscast down and you know you can’t rely on them to do much. Since being an MJ is a requirement for all broadcasting journalism majors, it is important to keep in mind that not all students want to be in the newsroom, but that they are there because they are required to. This sometimes influences how hard they work, and how cooperative they are throughout their shift. However, as a producer, you begin to notice who these students are early on, and you learn that you can’t always rely on them for your top stories. Nonetheless, you also start to notice who your “star” MJs are, and you know you can trust them to help you improve your newscast each week.
