USG UNDER SCRUTINY
REPORTER BLOG
I arrived at ATVN excited and ready to start my day. I was lucky enough to be able to do a story on campus with a lot of breathing room from my producers. I was told to cover the results of the USG election, and figure out why they are still unofficial. This story had a lot of various angles that I could have gone with, but I tried to use all the people closest to the story to tell it.
I knew early on that I wanted to try and get every ticket involved in the story as well as USG officials. The story itself was interesting just based off the fact that USG was investigating the election. The election saw some bumps and bruises with one of the tickets dropping out, and another getting suspended. This led many students on campus left wondering what was going on in USG. I wanted to make sure that students were also part of my piece, and I found a great interview of someone who said that he was losing confidence.
My producers and I realized that I had to much information to be put into a minute-thirty piece, so they gave me an additional 30 seconds.I ended up interviewing Holden Slusher, Owen Caine, Jens Midthun, and John Legittino, all of which were associated with USG. They added a lot to the story and they all addressed the confidence issue. In the end, the story came out pretty well, and it definitely came down to the wire. The week before, I was done with my story by 4:45, but this week I used almost all my time.
