Safe Surrender Program Celebrates 10 Years
Los Angeles County commemorated the 10-year anniversary of the Safe Surrender Program Wednesday morning.

Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe was at the celebration, which honored the program that allows parents and legal guardians to safely abandon their child without fear of arrest or prosecution.
Signed into law by Governor Gray Davis, the Safe Surrendered Baby Law is meant to protect babies if they are abandoned.
According to the program's website, the law allows infants three days old or younger to be safely and anonymously surrendered to any hospital emergency room, fire station or designated Safe Surrender site. The baby will then be placed in a pre-adoptive home.
So far, 87 babies have been safely surrendered in L.A. County since the program's inception.
The closest Safe Surrender site to USC is at Los Angeles City Fire Station 15, located at the north end of campus on Jefferson Boulevard.
