Salon Murder Suspect Gets Public Defender

A new attorney was appointed for the salon murder suspect.

Orange County Superior Court Judge Erick Larsh appointed the Orange County Public Defender’s Office Monday to represent the man accused of murdering his ex-wife and seven other people in a Seal Beach beauty salon.

At a hearing Monday in Santa Ana, Scott Dekraai's, 42, defense attorney, Robert Curtis, asked to be taken off the death penalty case, according to Deputy District Attorney Scott Simmons.

Simmons speculates that Curtis’s wish to be removed from the case stems from the expenses incurred from death penalty trials and the possibility that his firm, Jarvis & Krieger, does not have the resources to properly defend the client.

Dekraai is due back in court with his new attorney Nov. 29 for arraignment.
