Study: Fish Oil Slows Prostate Cancer Growth
According to a study published Tuesday, UCLA researchers found that a low-fat diet with fish oil supplements slowed the growth of prostate cancer cells prior to prostate removal.
Researchers at the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center compared subjects on the low-fat diet to subjects on a traditional high-fat Western diet.

Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which are known to have many health benefits.
“The lower the rate of proliferation, the lesser the chances that the cancer will spread outside the prostate, where it is much harder to treat," said lead researcher Dr. William Aronson.
The study also found that men on the low-fat diet were also able to change the composition of their cell membranes in both healthy cells and cancer cells in the prostate, which may affect the biology of the cells.
The study appeared in Cancer Prevention Research, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.
