Pope Benedict Will Tweet Each Day During Lent

The Twittersphere will now include a daily papal message.

Pope Benedict XVI will send out a tweet a day during Lent in an effort to spread his messages to those who may have fallen out of touch with the Church.

Msgr. Paul Tighe told Vatican Radio that the Vatican's use of social media is an experiment to see what kind of impact it will have on it's mission to reach Catholics worldwide. The Vatican says their goal is to widely spread the brief papal messages to reach someone who has given up on Lent and their faith.

The Pope will send every tweet in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German via @Pope2YouVatican.

The first tweet, posted on Ash Wednesday, read: “Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works (Heb 10:24) #Lent #Pope2You."

Msgr. Tighe said that the Vatican is embracing Twitter as a potentially useful medium for direct and instant transmission of the pope's beliefs about all Catholic events.

Usig modern technology to connect with society is not loving those that are starving. Pathans you should familiarize yourself with how Benedict XVI and the Vatican works with the starving-- unless Christianity has no bearing on your moral compass, wouldn't one think it useful to use technology- if it is accessible- to call on all Christians to pray for the poor and to give in charity? Or would you have the Pope crawl under a rock and not communicate with society in its modern way?

The Pope should try giving up "tweeting." It makes a mockery of those that are starving.

Perhaps his tweeting will encourage those who sit on their hands to actually get out on the streets and feed the poor and homeless. We all need encouragement.

How does communicating a daily message (communication is part of the Pope's job, btw) mock those who are starving?

The Pope using modern day technology to connect with society is not mocking the starving any more than you or I. Would you have him, or yourself, crawl under a rock or starve yourself to prove you have compassion for the starving or the poor? And how would that help them better? Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with how the Vatican aids the hungry.

Instead of crawling under a rock, we use -especially the Pope- technology to reach the rest of the Christian community to call its people to serve the poor and the hungry, to give charity. We are given the station we are blessed with in our lives so that we may better serve others. Unless you bear no Christianity within your moral compass, you may not see this.
