Santorum Campaign Heating Up
Rick Santorum's gamble to skip ahead in the primary paid off last night as he won Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota and earned $250,000 for his campaign to become the Republican candidate for president.
Santorum curshed front-runner Mitt Romney's better funded and more organized campaign beating him by about 30 percentage points in Minnesota and Missouri and by 5 points in Colorado.
Romney won both Minnesota and Colorado in 2008.
Santorum said he finally feels like he is earning the support he needs from conservatives and with that support he will offer a purer form of conservatism that can best Obama.
“I don’t stand here to claim to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney,” he said, “I stand here to be the conservative alternative to Barack Obama.”
Even with the extra cash raised Santorum's total funds is still behind Romney by a large margin. Coming up on the campaign trail is a debate in Arizona followed by a stop in Michigan, where Romney’s father used to be governor. But after Tuesday night's vote, Santorum's motivation seems to be at an all time high.
“We definitely are the campaign now with the momentum.” Santorum said.
