Military Heroes Honored on Veterans Day
Volunteer Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles have joined to observe and celebrate Veterans Day on Monday.
Volunteers gathered at the VA Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles Monday to construct planters, paint activity rooms, plant flowers and create a gathering space for female residents.
With over 350,000 veterans, Los Angeles is home to one of the largest veteran populations in the United States.
Volunteer Los Angeles maintains a direct connection between nonprofit and government organizations with volunteers. Each year, 60,000 vounteers work to assist struggling families, improve the environment and keep neighborhoods safe.
The organization completes over 2.2 million hours of volunteer work each year. Volunteer Los Angeles focuses on using innovation and collaboration create a difference in Los Angeles.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and several charity leaders attended the event.
Other volunteers assisted with service projects at the Shadow Hills Riding Center, where veterans use equine therapy to relieve Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and physical issues.
