USG Student Senate Closes Its Semester
The Undergraduate Student Government senators' final meeting of the semester took place Tuesday night at the Ronald Tutor Campus Center, primarily discussing a resolution to appoint a new Student Tuition Representative.
The resolution nearly stalled as senators debated whether their written document was appropriate to present to the Board of Trustees. While every senator supported a student representing the student body in this particular issue, some senators were in favor of spending more time to create a more professional proposal, while others argued presenting to the Board of Trustees immediatley would be more effective. After a long discussion, the majority of the senators decided to pass the written resolution in its original form. The resolution still requires the approval of USG President Michael Geragos before it is presented to the Board of Trustees.
The senate passed another agenda item, which was to select a new Student-at-Large to be on the Board of Trustees. President Geragos nominated Nathan Berger, a computer science and business administration major, who was approved immediately.
President Geragos and Treasurer Jenn Guan presented information regarding why the Philanthropy Fund Allocation Committee had unanimously voted to raise the programming fee for students. The committee increased the fee in response to an increase in the number of undergraduate students from 15,000 to over 17,000 in the past year, and to offset the impact of inflation.
