Mini Environmentalists Clean the Coast
More than 700 students from schools across Los Angeles participated in their own version of Coastal Cleanup Day Wednesday in Santa Monica.
Area teachers like Maria Villa stressed the importance of maintaining clean beaches. They also informed students about the impact oceanic trash can have on humans and wildlife.
Later in the day, students set out on their own beach cleanup excursions so they could see for themselves just how polluted L.A.'s beaches really are.
The official Coastal Cleanup Day event will take place Saturday, Sept. 21, across 50 beaches in Southern California.
