College Acceptance Rates Hit Record Low
With undergraduate application season over, colleges and universities across the country are reporting record-low acceptance rates for the class of 2018.
Stanford University, notorious for its low admission rate, reported an all-time low acceptance rate of 5.07 percent. In 2013, it accepted 5.7 percent of applicants.
USC turned away 82.2 percent of applicants and received a record 51,800 applications.
However, No. 1 ranked Harvard University, according to the U.S. News and World Report, reported a slightly higher acceptance rate this year. Out of 34,295 applicants, Harvard accepted 5.9% of applicants, nearly 0.5 percentage points more than the previous year.
UCLA, the long-reigning leader of applications, received about 86,000 applications for the 6,000 spots available for the class of 2018. Admissions statistics for the UC campus haven't been released yet.
