Residents of Bell Gardens Speak Out about Deceased Mayor

Bell Gardens residents say they are shocked by the shooting death of the mayor. ATVN's Kelly Reinke reports on the latest in the investigation.

A day after the shooting death of Bell Garden's mayor, residents are still expressing shock and dismay about the event.

Mayor Daniel Crespo was allegedly shot by his wife on Tuesday after they got into an argument, according to the L.A. Sheriff's Department. The mayor's wife is currently not in custody.

Bruce Hernandez, a resident of Bell Gardens, said to ATVN's Kelly Reinke that Mayor Crespo "wanted to change people's lives."

He was admired by many Bell Gardens residents, who say he was known to go out of his way to help people.

Stephanie Perez, a grocery store worker, recalled how Crespo assisted her family while he was the mayor of the city.

"Having him help my dad, that is a huge generosity for him to do that," said Perez. "Not a lot of people take care of people and care about them, so that was really nice of him."

Neighbors say they are surprised to hear about this incident because, "they seemed like such a happy family."
