Does Ted Cruz Appeal To Young Voters?

One expert says young voters won't turn out to vote in the same numbers they did in 2008 or 2012, period.

Senator Ted Cruz used Twitter to announced his candidacy. Many say this may be part of his campaign strategy to win younger voters.

L.A. GOP Board Member Gary Aminoff believes Millennials find Cruz very attractive and has a big following on his side.

"I think what they like about him is that he isn't the typical establishment candidate," he said.

However, Aminoff said he doesnt believe we will see the youth turnout in the same numbers we did in 2008 or 2012.

"There was a lot of excitement in 2008 by young people about Obama. I'm not sure they were excited in 2012 and I dont know how they are going to respond to Ted Cruz or to any other Republican candidate," he added.

Members of USC College Republicans think Cruz appeals more to true conservative values and this may be something that may or may not appeal to a younger demographic.

"Even amongst USC republicans a lot of people are in favor of Cruz and aren't in favor, so it is definitely kind of a dual-sided. We'll see if he is able to appeal," said Sarah Dhanaphatana, an executive member of USC College Republicans.

Morley Winograd, a political and millenial expert, thinks Cruz is a viable and energetic candidate but his views might not appeal to the majority of the American population.

"He is very dedicated and doctrinal of a republican who strongly belives his positions against immigration, against gay marriage, against a lot of inclusion and tolerance in American society and those things are not appealing to the Millenial generation or to many minority groups," Winograd said.
