USC Biocenter Breaks Ground
USC broke ground on a new center for convergent bioscience Thursday. The Michelson Center for Convergent Bioscience, named for philanthropic donor Gary K. Michelson, is the latest in a long series of efforts by the school to have a larger global impact.
One of the main goals of the Michelson Center is to help turn the field of biological sciences into a more, "quantitative and predictive" means of detecting and curing diseases faster.
Michelson's $50 million donation marks yet another milestone in USC's current fundraising campaign. The school hopes to raise over $6 billion in a multiyear effort. As of now the effort has reached over half that amount in private donations.
