Remains of Missing UCLA Student Found
The remains of a UCLA student who has been missing since July were found in Pacific Palisades Saturday just after 11 a.m., according to LAPD officials.
David Goeser disappeared from his Westwood apartment on July 22 with limited identification and a few personal belongings, according to a press release issued by his family.
Two hikers who were walking near the Los Liones Canyon Trail in the 500 block of Los Liones Drive Saturday came across what appeared to be a human skull, according to a press release from LAPD.
According to Goeser's family, the area is just down the street from where his car had been found abandoned on July 25.
When officers arrived at the scene they were taken near the entrance of the trail where the skull had been found. After examining the site they also came across the skeletal remains of a human torso about twenty feet away from where the skull was located.
Goeser's family said they are "completely devastated." They also said Goeser had been "struggling with severe depression" for a year and that he died from a "self-inflicted gunshot wound."
They expressed their gratitude for LAPD's efforts in the search for Goeser as well as for all of the volunteers who helped in the search.
"From local churches, fellow students, friends, and the larger Facebook community, we are indebted to you for your amazing show of love and support during this trying time," they said in a press release.
Goeser's family will hold a memorial service on Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village and have created a memorial fund.
Additional details about the fund and service can be found on their Facebook page.
