SoCal Voters Cast Their Ballots
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa along with 32 percent of Los Angeles County voters cast their ballot by midday Tuesdayfor the November 6 election, county officials said.
According to the county registrar's office, Tuesday's turnout was significantly less than the 43 percent of voters who cast their vote in 2008 at around the same time.
Some residents in Hancock park complained about their polling place being moved from Third street and Wilton Place to Wilshire United Methodist Church. The residents said they were not notified ahead of time, but a spokeswoman for the Registrar's Office said residents in the precinct should've received a post card and "robo calls."
The voter turnout in Orange County also lagging behind. At 11 a.m., 11 percent of voters had cast their vote compared to the 22 percent in 2008.
Neal Kelley from OC registrar's office said more than 100,000 people voted by noon. More than half the voters are mailing in their ballots. So far, they've had 22,000 ballots returned.
This year, 794,000 absentee ballots were requested, almost 250,000 more than the 550,000 requested in 2008.
