Storm's Spotlight: Morgan Andrews In-Studio
Junior midfielder Morgan Andrews had three goals in USC's comeback win against Cal State Fullerton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Andrews now has 10 goals this season. This was her third multi-goal match of the season and first hat trick as a Trojan.
Fullerton took command of the game early with two goals in the first half, but USC wasn't about to be out of the game.
Andrews scored her first goal in the 49' minute after knocking one in from a distance, putting USC within one of Fullerton, 2-1.
Andrews finished with her head in the 58' minute off of a cross from junior defender Kayla Mills, tying the game 2-2.
Fullerton took little time to respond. The Titans retook the lead 3-2 in the 59' minute.
In the 66' minute, Andrews once again found the back of the net off of a cross from Mills.
Throughout the rest of regulation and overtime, Andrews managed the flow of play in the middle and kept the pressure on the Titans.
The Women of Troy won 4-3 in penalty kicks following the two periods of overtime. Red shirt junior goalies Sammy Jo Prudhomme had two key saves on the first and last shots for Fullerton to secure the win for USC.
The Women of Troy head out to Virginia to face Princeton in the second round of the tournament at 1 p.m. on Friday.
